Via Chat

The conversation and the work, in one place.

Team chat with projects and tasks built in, not bolted on. A message becomes a task without leaving the thread it came from, and the task remembers where it came from.

Talking

Channels, threads and direct messages.

Organised the way a working team actually talks. Channels grouped into categories you can collapse, threads that keep a side conversation out of the main room, and direct messages that notify you by default because somebody chose you specifically.

  • Threads

Replies stay inside the thread. The parent message carries the reply count and when the last one landed.

  • Mentions that mean it

Name a person, or use everyone and here. A group notifies you on mentions, a direct message notifies you on everything.

  • Files and images

Attach them to a message or a task. Every file on a project is listed in one place with who added it and where it lives.

  • Edits and reactions

Fix a typo without reposting. React without adding a message nobody needed.

Working

Projects that hold up under a real workload.

The same tasks seen as a board, a list, a calendar, by person, or as a feed of what just happened. The view lives in the URL, so a link carries it and a refresh keeps it.

  • Custom fields

Text, number, date, single and multi select, person, checkbox. Values are validated against the field type before they are stored.

  • One task, several boards

A task has a home project and can appear on others, each with its own section. Every edit lands on the home wherever it was made.

  • Subtasks and recurrence

Break work down, and set it to repeat on the weekdays that suit it rather than a vague every-two-weeks.

  • A record of everything

Each task keeps its own history. Each project keeps a feed of what happened on it. Each person gets a feed of what touched them.

Everywhere

Real apps, and real notifications.

The web app installs as a progressive web app. The iPhone and Android apps are native shells around the same product, so a fix ships everywhere at once.

  • Push that knows better

If you are already looking at the conversation, your phone stays quiet. Notifications are for when you are not there.

  • Badges and unread state

An accurate count, not a red dot that lies to you.

  • Full width, always

The interface uses the screen you paid for. No narrow column of chat down the middle of a wide monitor.

Vio

An assistant that is accountable, and off by default.

Vio is a coworker with a name on its work, not a feature that quietly reads your messages. It arrives switched off, and there are two separate switches so you can have the useful half without the AI half.

  • The summary uses no AI at all

A daily round of what is overdue, unowned or stalled. Plain database queries, listed in the app in its own words so you know what it will say before you turn it on.

  • Answering only when spoken to

Mention Vio by name, or write a standing job for it. It does not read along in the background.

  • Never in direct messages

Vio sees group conversations in its own workspace and nothing else.

  • Nothing trains on you

What your team writes is never used to train any model.

Control

Roles, invitations and the awkward situations.

The parts most chat tools leave vague, written down and enforced.

  • Guests are actually separated

A guest sees only the conversations somebody added them to, enforced in the database rather than hidden in the interface.

  • One invitation, one address

Every invite names one email address and works once. A forwarded link gets the next person nowhere.

  • Reporting goes to your admins

A reported message reaches the people who run your workspace, not a queue at our office. The report keeps what was said, who raised it and who closed it.

  • Delete means something specific

You can delete your own account from inside the app, and the privacy policy spells out exactly what is removed and what is kept with your name taken off it.

Open

Your other systems can speak here too.

Via Chat exposes a standard endpoint so another program can post as itself, read a channel, open a task and tag the right people. Keys are scoped, shown once, stored hashed and revocable.

  • Two levels of key

A messages key can talk. A full key can also read and write the work. A route refuses the wrong scope rather than just hiding the option.

  • Built for VioVia first

Our own inventory system is the first thing on the other end of it, which is why it covers the things an operations system actually needs.

Questions people actually ask

Can I sign up right now?

Yes. Via Chat is live at chat.viovia.io and you can create a workspace with an email address and a password.

Is it on the App Store and Google Play?

Not yet. The iPhone and Android apps are built and the store submissions are in progress. The web app installs to your home screen and works today.

Does it replace our project tool as well as our chat?

That is the intent. Projects, tasks, custom fields, subtasks, recurring work, boards, lists and a calendar are in the same app and the same subscription as the conversation.

What happens to our data?

It stays yours. There are no analytics, no advertising pixels, no trackers and no cookies, and nothing you write trains a model. The privacy policy lists every provider we use and exactly what each one receives.

Can everyone at our company join automatically?

A workspace can name one email domain, and new accounts on that domain join as members. Anyone outside it needs an invitation addressed to them.

Create a workspace.

An email address and a password. You will be talking in about a minute.
